The 2nd Annual Cowboy Junction Dutch Oven Contest is slated for Saturday, May 24. Cooking will begin around 8 a.m. and the food will be ready to taste by noon. Admission is free.

Last year’s event was such a great success that we wanted to repeat the event with an additional feature. This year the public will get to purchase tasting kits to sample the wonderful food, and is invited to interact with the cooking teams and the other observers. There is ample parking for all to come out and enjoy the day. There will be concessionaires on the grounds for those wanting other food and drinks. This will be a day of learning the tradition of the Old West cooking, discovering favorite recipes, and visiting with all the contestants and cooking fans.

A panel will judge the food around 11 a.m. and presentation of awards will be at 1 p.m. Each team will receive a “Blind Box” so that all the teams will have the same main ingredients, but will be judged on preparation, presentation, and various other points.

Cooking Teams are forming now and those wishing to enter may call chief chef Sandye Berga at the Chuck Wagon at 256-3180.
